Geometry Software for Euclidean, Coordinate, Transformation, Analytic, and Fractal Geometry!

The Geometry's Sketchpad is an incredible dynamic tool for exploring geometry. Basic explorations of triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, and other geometric figures are a breeze with Sketchpad™. Create the figure once, then dynamically manipulate it as all related parts and measured quantities update continuously. And now this mind-boggling program has gotten even better with Sketchpad 3. While maintaining its same simple, but elegant, interface, Sketchpad 3 lets you explore new dimensions in geometry and other mathematical disciplines.

Introducing Sketchpad's Newest Features

With Sketchpad 3 you can explore analytic geometry in the same dynamic way you explore other geometries. You can make caculations based on the parameters of equations and plot any calculation or equation on the coordinate system. Users move not only from geometry to algebra, but from algebra--or trigonometry, calculus, physics, person finance, and more--back to geometry, connecting these subjects in insightful ways.

The Geometry's Sketchpad is available in the following packages:

ADD-ON MODULES FOR The Geometer's Sketchpad®

Exploring Geometry with The Geometer's Sketchpad®

This brand new version is a must-have for Sketchpad users!

lf you're using The Geometer's Sketchpad in your geometry classroom, you'll want to have this new version of Exploring Geometry. The original has been our most comprehensive and popular Sketchpad™ module ever-and feedback from classrooms makes this new edition better than ever!

Since the first edition was published, National Science Foundation research funding has enabled us to continue to visit classrooms, interview teachers and students, and directly observe what kinds of Sketchpad activities work best. That feedback has gone into making every activity in the new version more classroom-friendly. Revised activities and sketches also take advantage of the coordinate geometry and other features of Sketchpad Version 3.

More than 100 activities in a new, easy-to-use format cover virtually every concept studied in high school geometry, as well as many extensions. The package includes the book of reproducible blackline masters plus a CD-ROM in Windows® and Macintosh® format with over 100 sketches and scripts that accompany the activities.

Introductory material includes advice on using the activities, and suggestions for assessment and management in a Sketchpad class- room. A collection of extensions to the main activities provides ideas for projects, open-ended problems, and long-term assignments.

Other features of the new Exploring Geometry include the following:

Activities enhance both inductive and deductive approaches

If your course uses an inductive approach, you could use Sketchpad nearly every day to discover geometric properties. In courses using a deductive approach, your students can use Sketchpad activities to discover theorems they then prove, or to confirm and develop their understanding. Pick and choose activities to meet your needs; they needn't be done in order. None relies on students having done another activity, though teacher comments do reference related activities that might be helpful to do first.

Geometry Through the Circle with The Geometer's Sketchpad

Round our your Sketchpad™ activities! Dr. James King's module gives a fresh look at geometry-@with the circle as its fundamental building block. All the traditional topics about circles come alive with a visual, discovery approach. Your students first develop their intuition with interactive visual experiments, then put their insights to use solving a variety of construction problems. These include well-known constructions of circles that pass through points or that are tangent to lines or planes. Some constructions are general; others are based on artistic themes. The book even includes a trip to a circular "funhouse" whose mirrors reflect and distort images!

Included are sample activity disks in Macintosh and Windows formats and a book of blackline activity masters.

Pythagoras Plugged In: Proofs and Problems for The Geometer's Sketchpad

What do past US. President James Garfield, Renaissance painter Leonardo da Vinci, Hindu mathematician Bhaskara, and a 16- year-old high school student from Ohio named Ann Condit have in common? They all originated different proofs of the Pythagorean Theorem!

Dan Bennett's Pythagoras Plugged In guides your students through a variety of proofs, applications, and extensions of the theorem. By constructing and dynamically manipulating figures, students can visualize the theorem and gain insights that no static illustration can offer.

Included are sample activity disks in Macintosh and Windows formats and a book of blackline activity masters.

Exploring Conic Sections with The Geometer's Sketchpad

Deepen your students' understanding of ellipses, hyperbolas, and parabolas as they construct physical and computer mechanisms that draw each of the conic sections. The major and minor axes, focus, and directrix spring to life on the screen as students drag them around to produce different conies. By using Sketchpad™, students come to understand the mathematics, both geometric and algebraic, of the conic sections. Activities suit a range of students by providing hints, step-by-step instructions, and open-ended problem statements for students ready for difficult challenges.

Included are sample activity disks in Macintosh® and Windows® formats and a book of blackline activity masters.

Perspective Drawing with The Geomefer's Sketchpad

Written by Cathi Sanders, a teacher with 20 years experience teaching mechanical drawing, this book can be used for a series of interactive exercises through which students come to understand perspective drawing. By book's end, students will discover how to draw accurate representations of objects as they really see them in the world. Perspective Drawing can also be used as the basis tor lectures and demonstrations, followed by students creating hands-on drawings with Sketchpad. This book can be used for minicourses that are one to two weeks in duration.

Included are sample activity disks in Macintosh® and Windows® formats and a book of blackline activity masters.

Exploring Trigonometry with The Geometer's Sketchpad

Use Sketchpad to actively explore trigonometry! Students can construct dynamic, animated illustrations of trigonometry in action and make working models of practical applications. They will see the relationship of the unit circle to the right triangle definition of trigonometry functions, and create a dynamic link from the unit circle to periodic functions.

Included are sample activity disks in Macintosh® and Windows® formats and a book of blackline activity masters.
